Bringing college campuses closer to cloud computing, Dell has announced a Citrix and vmware based virtual lab solution that will allow students at participating universities to “access lab applications from their own PC’s, no matter what PC they have”. With colleges and universities across the globe looking to cut costs and make more efficient use of what they have now more than ever, this offering from Dell couldn’t have come at a better time.
Higher-education organizations are able to choose from three customized Virtual Lab offerings:
- Adaptable Virtual Lab - Virtualizes lab desktops for easier management
- Mobile Virtual Lab - Provides students access to lab work on their personal PC’s
- Hosted Virtual Lab - Combines both offerings, hosting desktops in the Dell cloud with server management services provided
Regardless of how the students connect to the lab, all of the processing heavy lifting along with the systems management will be done in the centralized data center whether that be the Dell cloud or the school’s own data center depending on which option the organization chooses to go with.
